It is exciting to observe children entering the classroom at the beginning of a new school year. Children enter the classroom very cautiously. Children can be a bit apprehensive during this transition from home to the classroom. What may seem to the adult as a simple experience is a very major event in a young child’s life. Just consider all the new aspects to which the child needs to adapt each new school year: the physical environment, re-adjustment to teachers, a new peer group, separation from parents, and a change in routine -- all occurring simultaneously.
Due to our gradual transitioning of children into our classrooms during August and September, we are able to ensure that each child’s transition to school is successful and smooth. This gradual transition of a few students at a time allows the staff to meet the emotional needs that each child experiences at the beginning of a school year, which in turn facilitates a peaceful classroom environment which frees the child to focus on new learning. It also allows the staff to evaluate the children individually as well as socially, emotionally, physically and academically.
